Plan for 30 affordable homes

A plan to demolish a home to make way for 30 new homes in a village has been put forward.

The proposal by Barley Development looks to build 30 affordable homes off Shinehill Lane in South Littleton near Evesham/

A home, known as ‘Walworth’, would be demolished to make way for the new homes.

The homes would be a mix of one-to-four-bedroom homes, one-bed flats and one-and-two-bed bungalows.

Of the homes, 16 would be marketed for affordable rent with 14 homes left for shared ownership.

The homes would be accessed by a new road off Shinehill Lane.

A statement included with the planning application said: “The application site will enhance the local area by re-using the vacant site providing much needed affordable accommodation.

“Residents will benefit from good public transport links and be in close proximity to local amenities such as schools, shops and Evesham town centre.

“Development of this application will also help create a safer environment; the introduction to the active street frontage will provide natural surveillance therefore making it a more defensible space by deterring anti-social behaviour.”

One objection by a neighbour has been submitted so far saying the village does not need more traffic as it already suffers from problems.

The objection said: “The village does not need any more traffic. 56 extra cars, if not more, going up and down Blacksmiths Lane. It’s bad enough as it is.

“South Littleton is a lovely little village, please do not spoil it anymore.

“My close neighbours must be devastated to know a road will run right down the side of his property, not to mention being overlooked by houses.

“Its about time things where left as they were. 30 properties in such a small area is ridiculous.

“We already have issues with flooding and a very high-water table and this development is not going to help. We also have a family of foxes and deer in the area as well as wild birds.”

The plans can be viewed and comments can be made via the planning section of Wychavon District Council’s website.

Consultation ends on May 2.

The application number is 20/00518/FUL.
